UK bed and mattress sizes for trade buyers

By the Flair Trade team · Last reviewed 30 October 2026

Short answer: The main UK mattress sizes are single 90 x 190 cm (3ft), small double 120 x 190 cm (4ft), double 135 x 190 cm (4ft 6in), king 150 x 200 cm (5ft) and super king 180 x 200 cm (6ft). Continental (EU) sizes are longer at 200 cm and use different widths, so a continental mattress will not fit a UK bed. Always match the mattress size named on the bed product page.

Key facts

  • UK and continental sizes are not interchangeable.
  • Flair product names state the size, for example "Single" or "Single Continental".
  • Shorty mattresses (75 x 175 cm) suit some kids' beds and bunks.
  • Bunks and high sleepers also have a maximum mattress thickness.

Some Flair kids' beds and Noomi pieces use continental sizes. Each product page names the mattress size it takes, and the stock feed carries a size column so your listings stay matched.

Why size matters in trade

  • Returns: a wrong-size mattress is one of the most avoidable returns. Sell bed and mattress together where you can.
  • Bunk safety: on bunks and high sleepers, the mattress must also be no thicker than the marked maximum. See BS EN 747.
  • Room planning: in HMOs and student rooms, room size limits the bed. See HMO furnishing.
  • Listings: give width, length and depth in cm, plus the UK size name, so marketplace filters work.

Frequently asked questions

What size is a UK double mattress?

135 x 190 cm, or 4ft 6in x 6ft 3in.

What size is a UK king size mattress?

150 x 200 cm, or 5ft x 6ft 6in. A UK king is narrower than many European king sizes.

What is a small double?

120 x 190 cm (4ft). It is sometimes called a three-quarter bed.

What is a continental single?

90 x 200 cm. It is the same width as a UK single but 10 cm longer, so it needs a continental-size frame.

What is a shorty mattress?

A shorter single, 75 x 175 cm in the Flair range, used on some kids' beds and bunks.

Will a European mattress fit a UK bed?

Usually not. Continental sizes are 200 cm long and use different widths. Match the mattress size named on the bed product page.
