FSC-certified wooden beds: what retailers should know
Short answer: FSC certification means the wood in a product comes from forests managed to Forest Stewardship Council standards, with each business in the supply chain holding chain-of-custody certification. When you sell FSC-certified beds, use the product's own FSC claim, check the certificate code where given, and only use FSC logos in your own marketing if you hold the right FSC licence. Many Noomi solid wood beds are FSC-certified.
Key facts
- FSC = Forest Stewardship Council.
- Chain of custody tracks certified material through the supply chain.
- Many Noomi solid wood kids' beds and furniture are FSC-certified.
- Product names on Flair Trade show "FSC Certified" where it applies.
What FSC certification means
FSC is an international scheme for responsible forest management. A product can carry an FSC claim when every company that takes ownership of the material, from forest to final manufacturer, holds FSC chain-of-custody certification. Common labels are "FSC 100%", "FSC Mix" and "FSC Recycled".
How to check a claim
- Look for the FSC claim on the product page or label.
- Ask for the supplier's FSC certificate code and check it on the public FSC certificate database (info.fsc.org).
- Make sure the claim applies to the exact product, not just the brand.
What you can say in listings
You can describe a product as FSC-certified where the product itself carries that claim. Using the FSC logo or trademarks in your own promotion generally needs an FSC trademark licence; retailers can apply for a promotional licence from FSC. Check FSC's trademark rules before using logos.
